Caravaggio is my all-time favorite painter, and I <i>wish</i> that I could be in Rome to celebrate!<br /><br />Preparations for the birthday celebration have occurred for awhile - I remember that the <i>Adoration of the Shepherds</i> was recently restored in preparation for the Scuderie del Quirinale show. (I blogged a little about the restoration <a href="http://albertis-window.blogspot.com/2009/10/caravaggio-restoration.html" rel="nofollow">here</a>.)<br /><br />I'm really excited about the new Taschen book. I hadn't heard about that.<br /><br />Speaking of Caravaggio (I'm getting on a roll), you might be interested in reading about a recent self-portrait of the artist that was discovered in the <i>Bacchus</i> painting (see <a href="http://albertis-window.blogspot.com/2009/11/new-portrait-of-caravaggio-only-you.html" rel="nofollow">here</a>). I noticed that <i>Bacchus</i> is also in this upcoming show - too bad the self-portrait can't be seen with the naked eye.
